Fee waiver guidance issued

OSBA has received numerous calls about a provision in House Bill 1 that prohibits charging instructional fees to students eligible for free lunch under the National School Lunch Program. The Aug. 10, OSBA Briefcase provided a synopsis of the provision. Click here for the article.

OSBA has received many questions about the scope and intent of the fee waiver change, particularly what courses are impacted by the change; whether the waiver applies to career-technical schools and classes; how to identify students who are eligible for the fee waiver; and confidentiality concerns. OSBA has consulted with the Ohio Department of Education, which has developed a FAQ sheet on this topic, available here. This FAQ sheet will be updated as other issues arise.
